THUNDER BAY -- Several university students have had their Social Insurance Numbers stolen through a phishing scam, city police report.
In a news release issued Friday evening, officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service warn Lakehead University students that they may be targeted by a email claiming to be from the “National Student Loan Center.”
The email requests confirmation questions from the students, an attempt to acquire as much information from the potential victim as possible.
Police say students should be extra cautious when providing personal information online.
