GERALDTON, Ont. -- Residents in Greenstone woke up to a shocking, or perhaps a beautiful sight, depending on how the people there feel about snow in September.

In Geraldton, about five centimetres of wet snow fell overnight. Greenstone Mayor Ron Beaulieu says it was a similar story in Longlac, and he thought it was a nice surprise when he woke up.

He's lived in the area for 61 years, and says the earliest he's seen the white stuff was on Sept. 15, about 10 years ago.

Beaulieu added that there were no problems or accidents Wednesday morning due to the snowfall.

Other communities east of Thunder Bay were also reporting flurries, including Manitouwadge, which had just enough to cover the lawns.
