An end to rising taxation on the citizens of Thunder Bay is something Kristian Kuznak would like to see happen.

“It’s increasing pretty steadily annually and doesn’t seem to have an end in sight,” said the 27-year-old McKellar Ward candidate.

“Making things more efficient, more workable is a really big thing for me and expanding industries is another big thing. You have to make as big of a base as possible to spread that out,” said Kuznak, adding with the city tackling big projects and an increasing cost of infrastructure maintenance, the tax base needs to expand so people aren’t digging themselves into financial holes.

A married father of two, Kuznak has lived in Thunder Bay his entire life. With two hard-working parents and now a parent himself, it’s important he sees a future for his children and everyone else around him.

“That’s really my drive and it’s seeing those opportunities for them in the future,” Kuznak said.
He cares about the community and wants to see change.

“I want to see growth in the city as far as opportunities for people. I think there are a lot of opportunities, especially in the ward I’m in, for growth,” Kuznak said.

“It would be really good to see that. I’m really interested in driving that forward and getting that out there.”

The proposed event centre in the downtown north core is a hot topic this election and Kuznak said he likes the idea of the centre, but doesn’t know if the city is ready for a project of this magnitude.

“I’ve read through the different phase reports. It’s going to be difficult because they’re talking about a loss basically every single year so you have to put it in perspective. Is it the cart before the horse? Are we ready for such a large centre?” he said.

“We’ll see when phase four comes out, I don’t know. It’s hard to say.”
