Mark Bentz left city hall with a smile on his face and a painting in his hands.

The now former councillor for Northwood declined to be interviewed after his last meeting at city council before Shelby Ch'ng takes over with the new council term next week.

Bentz and Ken Boshcoff were given gifts before the 2010-2014 council wrapped up. Boshcoff, who made an unsuccessful run for mayor and will be replaced by Frank Pullia, said it was an emotional time for him. Boshcoff has spent 26 years on and off at city hall as a mayor and councillor. He said he has no regrets about his last four years at the table, which he described as balanced and positive.

"There's lots to remember. Lots of good things and in essence I hope that's how people remember me," he said.

Boshcoff said he always tries to make things better and will continue to support the community and council.

"I live here and I belive in the future of our community," he said.

Containing costs will continue to be a challenge for the city but Boshcoff said he thinks the next term of council is up to it.

"That was my philosophical approach," he said. "To keep spending in line."
