THUNDER BAY -- Monday night’s council meeting at city hall is expected to be the final meeting for budget talks.

This will be the last chance for councillors to try to bring down the proposed levy increase, which now sits at about 4.6 per cent.

After four days of budget talks, council brought the proposed levy increase down from 6.33 per cent, but some councillors remain unhappy with that number.

Coun. Rebecca Johnson says she is planning to table a number of amendments that if adopted, would bring the levy down.

Johnson says she hopes the proposed levy increase can be brought down to  two per cent, which is a  number she says people on fixed incomes can afford.
