City expected to receive as much as 25 millimetres of rain

Environment Canada is forecasting between 15 to 25 millimetres of rain for the city of Thunder Bay, issuing a special weather statement shortly after 8 a.m. There could be as much as 30 millimetres in some locations.

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook in advance of the storm, warning low-lying areas could receive localized flooding and ponding. That advisory included the city as well as Neebing, Oliver Paipoonge, Shuniah and the townships of O’Connor, Gillies, Conmee and Dorion.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada is cautioning rain could turn into snow north of Lake Nipigon as a result of freezing temperatures, with areas potentially receiving as much as 10 centimetres of snow.
