THUNDER BAY -- City council will be asked to delay another road project to fund Golf Links Road or cut that project short this year.

On Monday council is being asked to award a $3.8 million to Bruno's Contracting for Stage 2B of the Golf Links Road project. The contract will see the four-laning of Golf Links from Linden Court to John Street along with curbs, sidewalks, boulevards and storm drain improvements.

There will also be two pedestrian bridges over the McIntyre River and a multi-use trail.

Council has already approved taking on new debt after matching Renew Thunder Bay funding didn't come through to the amount expected from senior levels of government.

But there's also a shortfall from the $3.3 million it does have to get the next phase of the project completed for a Thunder Bay Hydro utility relocation, traffic signals and purchased property.

Administration recommends that council delay a $674,000 Cumberland Street project to get Golf Links work to John Street this year.

Otherwise, the city could also stop work this season at Fairbanks Crescent.
