Fined $3,500 for Shooting Deer within City

NEWS   May 28, 2015

A Kenora man has been fined $3,500 for illegally shooting a deer.

Ralph Iverson pleaded guilty and was fined $3,000 for discharging a firearm without due care and consideration for people or property, and $500 for unlawfully possessing wildlife. He is not allowed to hunt in Ontario for two years and must successfully complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course before hunting in the province again.

On December 7, 2014, a conservation officer contacted Iverson while responding to a complaint of hunting in a Kenora residential area frequented by deer. The discharge of firearms is not allowed within the city. Upon investigation, the officer determined that Iverson had shot a white-tailed deer from his dining room window with a .22-calibre rifle a few days earlier. At the time, the deer was on Iverson’s property, standing on the driveway Iverson shares with his neighbour. Iverson field-dressed the deer behind his house and later disposed of the head and hide.

Justice of the Peace Robert McNally heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora, on May 26, 2015.
