Murder charge laid following death in Big Trout Lake

OPP News Release

(KITCHENUHMAYKOOSIB INNINUWUG FIRST NATION, ON) – On June 3, 2015 at approximately 8:15pm (CST) officers responded to a residence on Mikisee Road in the community of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (Big Trout Lake) First Nation after receiving a report of a male that had been seriously injured and was in need of medical assistance.

The male was transported to the nursing station where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Darren CROMARTY from Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation. A post mortem examination will be conducted but the location and date have not been confirmed.  

On June 3, 2015, 28-year-old Marina CROW from Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation was arrested and subsequently charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. The accused was remanded into custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on June 5, 2015.

Members of the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of the North West Region Forensic Identification Unit and North West Region Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Dave ROBINSON of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is investigating the circumstances surrounding this death.
