THUNDER BAY – While no new wildfires were reported in the Northwest Monday, crews are still dealing with some 30 confirmed fires from the weekend.

Officials with Ontario’s Ministry of Natural say crews have made significant progress on the fires, and that many are out or being held under control.

Meanwhile, some of the new fires are being monitored to promote the ecological benefits of the blaze.

Fires of note in the region are Sioux Lookout District Fire Numbers 31, 32 and 33 that are located near Muskrat Dam First Nation. Fire Ranger crews are being deployed to these fires.

The MNR says reconnaissance flights are planned across the Northwest Region to observe fires in the north.

Those flights will report on the condition of monitored fires and determine if any values are threatened in the vicinity of these fires.

The forest fire hazard is low in the south and moderate in the north.
