A special weather statement has been issued for the City of Thunder Bay by the federal government's weather service:

Thunderstorms with heavy downpours, gusty winds and frequent lightning possible tonight.

A few thunderstorms rumbling southeast across the regions tonight will likely contain heavy downpours and gusty winds. Some of the stronger thunderstorms may contain frequent lightning, small hail and wind gusts to 70 km/h. Local rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are also possible in a few locales that receive a couple thunderstorms in a row.

Motorists in the area should be prepared for sudden low visibility in very heavy downpours, resulting in difficult driving conditions.

The thunderstorms are expected to slowly weaken and move to the southeast of the regions by Friday morning.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.
