LETTER: Amend Municipal Election Act before online voting

To the editor, I find it highly ironic that editorial comments from this publication and members of city council say we are finally moving into the 21st Century by going with online voting for the next municipal election.

To the editor,

I find it highly ironic that editorial comments from this publication and members of city council say we are finally moving into the 21st Century by going with online voting for the next municipal election.

Before considering any alternative method of voting, wouldn’t it be wise to wait until the Municipal Elections Act is amended to have standardized procedures for these methods of voting as they do for hand-count ballots?

The Act has not been amended since the 20th Century. As it stands, the Act allows the City Clerk free reign to operate the election as they see fit.

Can someone explain to me how placing trust in any individual without verification or accountability is progressive democracy?

Andy Wolff,
Thunder Bay
