THUNDER BAY -- The local health unit is advising people with breathing problems or heart conditions to take it easy or stay indoors after Western wildfires caused an air advisory for Thunder Bay.

Air Quality Ontario issued a moderate risk warning for the region Monday as wildfires continue to rage across Western Canada.

Thunder Bay District Health Unit senior public health inspector Abby Mackie said it's rare for the region to get these types of warnings. The health unit is asking people with conditions to refrain from strenuous outdoor activities.

Anyone with any symptoms such as difficulty breathing, coughing or a sore throat should head indoors Mackie said.
