THUNDER BAY – Lowe’s is coming to Thunder Bay.

The home improvement chain confirmed on Friday they would be acquiring the former Target space inside the Intercity Shopping Centre, one of 14 new stores to be opened in Canada.

In May The Winnipeg Free Press reported Lowe’s had purchased the anchor space within the mall but at the time it was neither confirmed nor denied by company or mall officials.

Target closed its doors in Thunder Bay for the final time on April 1 as part of its withdrawal of Canadian operations after being in the market for less than two years.

Lowe's Canada spokeswoman Sandy Indig told TBT News the deals to acquire the former Target spaces were completed this week.

While she would not provide details on when the store is expected to open, she said the company plans to employ 130 people.
