THUNDER BAY -- The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is moving away from its partnership with Hamilton Health Sciences after 25 years.
But until the Regional transitions to having cardiac and vascular surgery capabilities here, patients will continue to travel to Hamilton.
About a month ago, Health Minister Erik Hoskins announced that Thunder Bay’s regional hospital was planning to bring in vascular and cardiac surgery. However, it would take some time to get the program up and running.
Currently there is no cardiac surgery taking place in the city and all patients go elsewhere with the majority of them going to Hamilton.
Dr. Mark Henderson says for the time being, patients will continue to go there until the facilities are ready in Thunder Bay.
