Thunder Bay Police Service Media Release
Suspicious male

The Thunder Bay Police Service has received a number of calls from the public about a suspicious male in Thunder Bay. Apparently this male is approaching people in public places and at their residences to ask for money.

Reports have outlined that he will tell a story of hardship including that his vehicle has run out of gas and he needs money. In most case people have not given him money but others have willing provided him with cash and in one report, he has called a friend to drive him and an elderly lady to the bank so she could willingly get money for him.

Sometimes he has requested to use the home phone to call someone. We are cautioning citizens about not allowing strangers into their home.

Police are continuing to investigate.

Be advised that should you be approached by anyone asking for money for whatever reason, you must use your common sense and determine if you wish to participate in a possible con. Remember some individuals are very believable and will play on your heartstrings in order to have you give them what they want. Once you give them money, most likely you will never be paid back and there is no recourse.

Remember it is your choice to participate or not, this advice pertains also to phone calls or emails that you may receive. When in doubt.....don't!
