August 28, 2015 – The early warning provided by working smoke alarms alerted a father and his daughter to a fire in their Christina Street home early yesterday morning. Firefighters responded to a structural fire just before 2 am and quickly extinguished a fire that was burning in the basement.
The residents were unaware that a fire had started in the basement, but were able to safely exit the home and call 911 because of the early warning provided by their working smoke alarms.
“Working smoke alarms give you the early warning that’s needed to safely exit your home,” said Fire Chief John Hay. “A fire at this time of night could have ended a lot worse without the early warning that smoke alarms provide”
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reminds everyone that it is the law to have smoke alarms on every level of their home and outside all sleeping areas.
