Two men forcible confinement charges for 'citizens arrest' of innocent man

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two Sioux Lookout residents for attempting to take the law into thier own hands.

During the morning of August 29, 2015, officers were met outside the detachment by two residents who advised they had made a citizens arrest of an individual whom they suspected had committed a crime. The alleged suspect was turned over to the officers.

The investigation revealed that the alleged suspect was not responsible for the crime, and the subsequent actions of the citizens was not lawful.

As a result of this incident, 40 year old Wally WOODS and 55 year old Pat CLARA, both of Sioux Lookout, have been charged with forcible confinement contrary to the Criminal Code.

They are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on September 29, 2015.
