Pair in Kenora charged with impaired driving over the weekend

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a male and female over the weekend for Impaired Driving offences. 

On Saturday August 29, 2015 at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Marine and Trails Unit (MTU) were patrolling Lake of the Woods and conducted a stop on a vessel in the area of the Keewatin channel.

Police determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and transported her to detachment for further tests. 

As a result of this investigation, 55 year old Sherri JACK of Winnipeg, has been charged with Operate Vessel While Ability Impaired and Operate Vessel with more than .80 mg of Alcohol in her Blood contrary to the Criminal Code.  She is to appear the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on October 15, 2015 to answer to the charge.

On Saturday, August 29, 2015 at approximately 10:00 a.m, the Kenora OPP received a complaint regarding a possible impaired driver in Sioux Narrows.

With the assistance of Treaty Three Police Service, the vehicle was located on Highway 71. Police determined the male driver had been consuming alcohol and placed him under arrest. Upon further investigation, approximately 56 grams of cocaine was located inside the vehicle and a larger amount of Canadian Currency. The approximate street value of the drugs is $5,600.

The female passengers Kelli MORRISON, age 26 from Sioux Narrows and  Sarah COPENACE,  age 27 from Kenora, have been charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The driver, 30 year old Craig LAVANDE from Thunder Bay, has been charged with the following offences:                                                                                        

 - Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000,

-Driving while Ability Impaired by Alcohol,

-Adult Care or Control Over 80 mgs,

-Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code

-Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Cocaine Contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The male was held for bail court on Monday August 31, 2015 and the females were released and are to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on September 17,  2015 to answer to the charges.
