THUNDER BAY – A pre-trial involving a gruesome July 2013 murder case has come to an end, and the young accused murder suspect is now set to stand trial in January.

The pre-trial of the homicide case of Shannon Ashliegh Marie Hogan concluded Wednesday. The accused, who cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces a count of second-degree murder.

Hogan, 30, was killed in a violent incident in a laneway behind Lake Street in the early morning hours of July 16, 2013.

Police arrested and charged the suspect, who is now 19, in December 2013 after he was already in custody on other charges.
At that time police said forensic evidence played a factor in making the arrest.

A publication ban was previously introduced on all evidence, which remains in effect.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
