Heat warning issued for parts of Northwest

It isn’t unbearably hot in Thunder Bay right now, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the region isn’t sweating out this Thursday.

It isn’t unbearably hot in Thunder Bay right now, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the region isn’t sweating out this Thursday.

According to Environment Canada the following communities are under an official heat warning:

  • Dryden
  • Fort Frances
  • Kenora
  • Pickle Lake
  • Red Lake
  • Sandy Lake
  • Sioux Lookout

Heat Warning in effect for:
• Savant Lake - Sturgeon Lake
• Sioux Lookout - Eastern Lac Seul

Hot and humid conditions are expected over Northwestern Ontario today. Daytime highs will be again near 30 degrees Celsius with humidex values in the high thirties. The heat is forecast to persist until early Saturday when a cold front moves through the region.
Watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include

- dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting
- headache
- rapid breathing and heartbeat
- extreme thirst and
- decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.

If you experience any of these symptoms during extreme heat, immediately move to a cool place and drink liquids. Water is best.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required. Please monitor local media or Weatheradio.
