THUNDER BAY -- A letter opposing the end of home mail delivery is heading to Canada Post and the federal government after a unanimous city council decision Monday night.

Council backed Coun. Paul Pugh's motion with little discussion after he told council the end of door-to-door delivery could mean more costs for the city and will make life more difficulty for seniors and people with mobility issues.

Canada Post's decision was made with little consultation with people and municipalities. It was made because Canada Post said it was losing money.

"We’ve had over a decade now to see that this has been proven false,” Pugh said.

The letter, which will be sent to the Prime Minister, Minister of Transport, local MPs and Canada Post's board of directors, comes after a deputation from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to council last week.
