THUNDER BAY -- The provincial and federal Green Parties have announced a plan to cooperate on several issues, including the Ring of Fire, electricity costs in the North, and the disposal of nuclear waste in the region.

Several communities in Northern Ontario, including Schreiber, Ignace and Ear Falls, have been identified as possible locations for future nuclear waste storage.

On Monday both the federal and provincial Green parties announced they will work with all levels of government to stop those plans, while also bringing cheaper energy to the north.

Ontario Green leader Mike Schreiner says moving away from Nuclear power is both safer, and cheaper for the consumer.

According to Ontario Power Generation, more than half of Ontario's electricity comes from nuclear power.
