THUNDER BAY -- A strike mandate vote was held Thursday for 650 CUPE members who work for the city of Thunder Bay.

The all-day vote was held at the Lakehead Labour Centre. Union members have been without a contract since December.

The negotiations with the city have been ongoing, and this vote was aimed at giving the union more clout in its dealings with the city.

Local President Marie Dean did not return calls requesting comment Thursday, but in a previous interview with Thunder Bay Television she pointed out that this vote would only give them a strike mandate, and there's no firm timeline for any potential walkout to begin.
