THUNDER BAY -- John Rafferty walked away without injury from a crash that killed a bear and totalled his Jeep.

The incumbent and federal NDP candidate for Thunder Bay-Rainy River was driving home from an all-candidates meeting Thursday evening when a bear crossed Hwy 61 near Boy Scout Road.

Rafferty said he struck the bear and went into a nearby ditch, rolling the vehicle several times.

He was able to walk away from the wreck injury-free.
