THUNDER BAY -- While the hit Nickelodeon animated show all takes place underwater planes can fly, snow falls and even rivers flow.

Like many parents who've seen the show countless times, Patti Caplette had some tough questions for creators Jonny Belt and Robert Scull. Caplette's been tasked with bringing that world to the stage, which includes a stop in Thunder Bay as Bubble Guppies Live! Ready to Rock makes a splash at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium Oct. 18.

"They said 'you're going into this imagination'," Caplette said.

"It has its own rules, it's own format that it follows."

Knowing that, nine months later Caplette had a vision to bring to live theatre, a 55-minute show that acts as a concert and storyline all in one.

Everyone from Molly and Gil to Mr. Grouper and the giggly little fish will be there to help the gang find a missing band member. The show features singing and dancing to all of the fan favourites.

"Just enough for the kids to get up and jump around and then they get tired and have to sit down again and watch a little bit more," Caplette said.

It took three months to get the costuming right. While she doesn't want to give too much away, Caplette said she thinks the designers nailed it when it comes to the Bubble Guppies, which resemble mermaids, not an easy thing to have on a stage.

"It's not puppets it's really kind of a hybrid actor that we've created for this show," she said.

And lest parents think the show will all be for the kids, Caplette said its been designed so that everyone from 2 to 92 will enjoy it.

"We keep everyone entertained, which is the way family entertainment should be," she said.

The Bubble Guppies have a 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. show. Tickets are available through the auditorium website.
