THUNDER BAY -- The lineup for Thanksgiving dinner reached down the Salvation Army hallway and around the corner. A bus scheduled to arrive come from both downtown cores hadn't yet arrived but the need was already apparent.

Serving turkey dinner to the less fortunate on Thanksgiving is an annual tradition for Thunder Bay's firefighters and their families, who were lined up at the cafeteria counter when the crowds were allowed to pour in at noon.

"It's really improtant to have that partnerhsip, to show people in our community that there are people who care and people who want to give something special to other people, who may not be in a position to do that for themselves," said Salvation Army spokeswoman Gail Kromm.

Two dozen pounds of potatoes, 10 cabbages for coleslaw and what Kromm described as "a lot" of broken bread for stuffing.

Kromm added the meal is designed to enocourage everyone in the community to have fellowhsip together.

"It's to have something special and to let them know people are there, concerned for them and wanting to give them something."
