THUNDER BAY -- Bike lanes in Thunder Bay are open again for the cycling season.

Cyclists will be able to enjoy the safety of more than 30 kilometres of bike lanes the city has put in place over the last several years.

Motorists are reminded it’s illegal for them to stand, park or drive in a bike lane, though they may be crossed over if a driver needs to turn right onto a street or into a driveway.

However, city officials say it’s imperative for drivers to check for bikes when doing so, as cyclists do have the right-of-way.

Bike lanes are open annually from May 1 to Nov. 1.
