(Thunder Bay, May 6, 2016)    Just how bad are Thunder Bay's social problems?

How do we compare to other cities in Canada? What can we do to address the issues of poverty, drug addiction, race relations, food security, and crime?

These issues and more will be discussed during a panel discussion titled "Making Thunder Bay Better for Everyone" hosted by the Lakehead Social Planning Council at its 2015 Annual General Meeting.

The panelists will examine the relationship between poverty and racism, the role of governments and civil society and whether more social spending is the answer, including the idea of a guaranteed annual income and more.

The guest panelists include Bonnie Krysowaty from the Thunder Bay and District Poverty Reduction Strategy, Cynthia Olsen of the Thunder Bay Drug Strategy, Catherine Schwartz Mendez of the Thunder Bay and Area Food Strategy, Lee-Ann Chevrette of the Thunder Bay Crime Prevention Strategy and Robin Haliuk of the Urban Aboriginal Strategy.

The presentations and panel discussion take place Tuesday, May 10th, 2016 at the Victoria Inn beginning at 7 p.m. in the Kensington Room.

This event is open to all members of the public.
