Bear killed, mutilated in Kashechewan First Nation

KASHECHEWAN FIRST NATION -- Police at Kashechewan First Nation are investigating an incident that saw a bear killed and declawed and its remains left at the community dump.

KASHECHEWAN FIRST NATION -- Police at Kashechewan First Nation are investigating an incident that saw a bear killed and declawed and its remains left at the community dump.

Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, in a release issued on Thursday, said they've determined the individual believed to be responsible for the bear’s death, but the matter is still under investigation.

Meanwhile police in the remote northern community, located 500 kilometres northwest of Timmins, Ont., said they had to put down a nuisance polar bear on Tuesday after efforts to redirect the bear from KI failed.
