Cyclist hospitalized, driver charged after Highway 61 crash

(THUNDER BAY,ON)- On Monday, August 22, 2016 at approximately 8:00 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), as well as Thunder Bay Police Service, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and North Superior Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist at the intersection of Highway 61 and Broadway Avenue.

The driver of a Hyundai Tuscon was making a left turn from Broadway Avenue to go south bound on Highway 61, when the driver collided with a cyclist that was proceeding through the intersection across Broadway Avenue.

The male cyclist was transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries.

A female driver, 33 years of age, from Thunder Bay was charged with Fail to Yield contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
