Medical Equipment Modernization Opportunity, along with Quality Market locations in Thunder Bay, is stepping up to help fill another major need for seven hospitals in Cuba.

But this time  it's not medical supplies they're collecting, but toilet paper.

The emergency arose when the factory supplies the majority of toilet paper in Carribean country broke down and officials in the communist country say it won't be repaired any time soon.

MEMO is asking Quality Market shoppers to purchase an extra package of toilet paper while picking up their groceries and place in the bin provided.

The toilet paper will then be used as packing the next time a shipment of supplies is sent to the island nation. Click here to submit a letter to the editor.

Tell them to get their own toilet paper. Everybody always wants a handout these days.. hmm, I dont think I want to touch any "hand" they have out ...considering their lack of TP.

I think we have enough people here that can't afford the basic neccesities (like t.p) - Although I do not disagree with helping others suffering around the world I think we should help what we have in our own backyard first.

"karcat" MEMO is an organization based with the support of the Canadian Evangelical Church. The Thunder Bay H.Q. (Head Quarters) and is primarily based on the principles of providing for the Cuban People better medical equipment that can no longer be used in Canada. The equipment that is shipped to Cuba is surplus and deamed too out of date for Canada. As a MEMO voluteer for the past six years I have seen and heard that MEMO has saved lives in Cuba and in The Phillipens. If any one out there has any more questions or comments please visit memocuba.org for further information. MEMO has shipped over 800.000 KG of surplus equipment in almost 40 Ocean Containers to the third world and none of this ended up in our John Street land fill
