Police charged the driver of a flatbed tractor trailer with a red light violation following a spill on Arthur Street Wednesday night.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers say the driver claims he went through the intersection at James Street on an amber light and was cut off by another driver making a left turn.

Police say the truck driver was not able to provide a description of the other vehicle.

His flatbed was carrying heavy steel, which spilled onto the road and forced the closure of the intersection for a few hours until things were cleaned-up.

File under "They Don't Get it"

Trucks are a fact of life in all big cities. But most places have a truck route that channels heavy trucks away from passenger vehicles.

Take Red RIver Road. Trucks have a viable route down the new Extension, which would by-pass Red River, but we still have thousands of transports fighting for space on a busy commercial strip lined with stores. A driver told me that taking # 102 saved him 6 km. On a 4,000 km cross country trip, that is not much diesel.

Well I guess you did not read the story, so go back on read it again, because the truck driver stated that he was cut off by what a car, ya a 4 wheeler. and if you all look Arthur Street is a truck route and it will always be a truck route. So maybe before you guys stats bashing truck, think about who, puts food in your house and gas in your super SUV so you can cut us off,,,, yes i am a trucker my self. so just think its lucky that he only spilled his load and not killed someone from trying to avoid the car that cut him off. and everyone knows we can go on and on about truck and cars so maybe some of the people that drives cars should come for a ride in a transport, maybe then people will get it in there heads that it takes a lot more to handle a truck then your car. and see all the stupid things 4 wheels does on the HWY, or do i have to post some vidoes on your tube.,,,,
