A local OPP officer will stand trial in connection with a fatal car crash just over a year ago.

The four-day preliminary hearing for Sgt. Darryl Storey concluded Thursday at the Ontario Court of Justice.

Storey faces charges of criminal negligence and dangerous driving causing death after the crash in December 2008, which took the life of 18-year-old Jasmine Veneruzzo.

The St. Patrick High School student was pronounced dead at the scene, after her yellow Pontiac Sunfire and an unmarked police cruiser collided at the corner of Twin City Crossroads and Highway 11-17.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit investigated the incident and eventually charged Storey in March of 2009, about three months after the crash. The charges came after the SIU interviewed various witnesses.

No date has been set for the trial. Storey has elected to be tried by a judge and jury.
