OPP officers located the body of a Terrace Bay man who was reported missing Saturday.
The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located the body of 41-year-old Jean Steven Giguere Monday.

Giguere was reported missing Monday evening when he failed to return to his vehicle after being on Lake Superior. Local residents say they saw the man walking on the ice from the shoreline of Lake Superior toward Cat Islands.

Giguere had told family where he was going and had planned to return later that evening.

Members of the Schreiber detachment of the OPP, with assistance from the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and Emergency Response Team had been searching for the man since Saturday. Click here to submit a letter to the editor.

I just don't get why people take a chance on Lake Superior at this time of year. Its was risky at least when we had consistent weather but in today's cornball weather why would you even think to walk on the lake of death?

The weather has changed in the last few years which also changes Lake Superior. People who live down there have a false sense of what is safe based on what once was ... The lake years ago was safe in March .... But now it is barely safe in Jan.
It is a shame that LSHS lost a good one ...

30 years ago I would spend the March break with my father going ice fishing for the week.
It was cold with snow up to your eyeballs......
Every year the season is shorter and shorter to this year where I am not sure about the conditions any more. A definite change in the climate and the safe ice season.
A horrible loss to the family and friends of this poor fella.
RIP........
