Construction on the May Street Bridge is now days away from completion, which would be more than a month ahead of the planned deadline.

The project is expected to be completely finished next week, nearly a month and a half ahead of the original contract's completion date of Sept. 15.

The project began back in April and workers were pouring concrete by the end of June. The bridge is now open to four lanes of traffic for the long weekend, before crews return next week to lay the top layer of asphalt and do some minor site cleanup.

Project engineer Mike Vogrig said the remaining work should only take a day or two.

He added that many factors played into the early completion, including favourable weather in the city over the past few months.

Vogrig said the final cost of the project isn't known yet.

Well this is a first or most likely a mistake was made in the time line to completion in the first place.

Also, what kind of a statement is "the final cost of the project isn't known yet" it was issued as a fixed price contract was it not.?
