No decision on Marathon chemicals

Residents in Marathon are still awaiting a decision regarding the millions of litres of chemicals at the abandoned Marathon Pulp facility.

After three days of environmental review hearings in Toronto, no decision has been reached on how to deal with the chemicals at the mill, which has been idled since March. Former mill owner Tembec appealed the original conditions in the maintenance plan, regarding how the company should deal with the waste, referred to as black or green gold.

Before the chemicals freeze, the tribunal must decide on a maintenance plan for the winter. Town council and other parties are trying to come to an agreement on a winter contingency plan pending a full hearing scheduled for spring 2010. The environmental review is scheduled to continue on Monday.

ok now why would you put the chemicals in a lake like Lake Superior there are other ways to deal with the situation. if it is power issues as to why the mill cant be heated there are other solutions and are low cost.but what would i know im just a contractor.

heat the damn mill! lake superior is one of the last great lakes with little pollution. where that mill is located, these chemicals would go directly into the lake. do something tembec!

realitycheck, Marathon Pulp is older, smaller and more efficient than TBPI. If it is economical to start, maybe a loan should be granted but otherwise it wouldn't make sense.

tick tock tick tock.......
The time is now my friends.....
This must be resolved or we are looking at a "enviromental disaster" of monumental proportions. The amount of chemicals contained in a plant of this size could do major damage to the enviroment.
The least we could do is heat the plant and stop the freeze and release of the contents of the plant.(and trust me it will happen)
Who is responsible I am not sure......
But I know for a fact what will happen if it is not done.
Again I speak from the advice of a profesional worker of a pulp mill with 20+ years of experience and he has the knowledge of the inner workings of such a mill.(you know who you are buddy lol)
If allowed to freeze , we will be in a whole world of trouble.
Get this dealt with......or........
