Mrs. Nellie Zadro, age 96 years, a resident of Dawson Court Home for the Aged, passed away peacefully at her residence with family at her side on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010.

Nellie was born in Brela, Croatia on Nov. 23, 1913 and came to Port Arthur as a thirteen year old girl.  While working at a boarding house she met and fell in love with John Zadro.  They were married on Dec. 30, 1930 and together raised three children.

Nellie was a woman who loved people and saw everyone as her friend.  She enjoyed gardening and cooking.  As a member of the Croatian Home Society she could be found volunteering in the kitchen whenever her assistance was needed.  Nellie's greatest love was for her family, especially her grandchildren and she was happiest spending time with them.

She is survived by her children:  George (Anne) Zadro, Nikki (Rudy) Maronik, and Eileen (Ivan) Madunic;  grandchildren:  John, Brian, Linda, Carole, Peter, Susan and Joanne; and 12 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband John, as well as by a sister and brother in Croatia.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Richard Kowalchuk presiding.  Visitation for friends will be held for one hour prior to service time.

The interment will take place in St. Andrew's Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center Foundation would be appreciated.
