Posted

Ms. Jean Gustafson, age 67 years, passed away peacefully with her family at her side in St. Joseph's Care Group on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011.

Jean never gave up on life and fought her illness courageously until the end. Jean was an active member in her community of Armstrong and Whitesands. She gave selflessly through her volunteering and was always there in people's times of need. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends and to give to the less fortunate.

Jean was devoted to her God and was very involved in volunteering at Our Lady of Snows R.C. Church.  Jean's family was the centre of her life and she was happiest when spending time with them. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, a loving sister to her siblings, a wonderful mother to her children and many foster children and a doting grandmother and great grandmother to her greatest treasures.

She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her son Allan (Deborah) Gustafson, daughters Crystal (Jamie) DaSilva and Ruby (Rob) Gray, sisters Lillian Lachinette and Anna Gustafson, brothers George (Stella) Gustafson and Henry (Yvonne) Gustafson, grandchildren Matthew, Gene, Carlo and Norman as well as by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Hilda (Blondie) Gustafson, son Peter Gustafson, parents Gunnar and Josephine Gustafson and her life long partner Victor Wanakamik.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at 1 p.m. in Our Lady of Snows R.C. Church, Armstrong, Ont., celebrated by Rev. Larry Kroker s.j.  Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Visitation for friends will be held on Friday, Jan. 28 from 6-8 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, where the Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Davis, Dr. Kolobov and the wonderful nurses and staff at St. Joseph's Care Group for the care and compassion shown to Jean during her time there.

As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre -Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated.
