Mr. Stanley Richard Maronese age 76 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Sunday, March 27, 2011, with his family by his side.

Born and raised in Fort William, Stan spent his early years in the East End. He was married to Norma Piovesana on May 10, 1958, in St. Dominic’s Church, where Stan was a parishioner his entire life, both in the East End and at Northwood.

As a young man he took up an apprenticeship as an auto mechanic and worked at several locations. He moved to Great Lakes Paper in 1965 and proudly became a heavy equipment mechanic where he worked until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of the Paper Worker's Union, Local 39 at the mill and he was also a member of the Principe di Piemonte. As an avid outdoorsman, Stan enjoyed many hunting and fishing outings spent with good friends. In recent years being at home with his family and working in his garden was most enjoyable to him.

His pets Chico, Coco and most recently Samantha held a special place with Stan. Carrying on traditions that were part of his Italian heritage were always very important to Stan as well.  He is survived and will be missed by his loving wife Norma, children Kathleen Solda and husband Michael, grandchildren Cameron and Zachary, son Robert and wife Sylvia, grandchildren Alyssa and Collin, daughter Laura Buset and husband Dino, grandchildren Alexander and Julia, all of whom were the apple of Stan's eye.

He is also survived by his sisters Bruna and husband William Comuzzi, Annette and husband Joe Comuzzi, nephews Bill and Jamie and other relatives also survived. He was predeceased by his parents Benedetto and Elvira Maronese.

Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Dominic's Church celebrated by Rev.Victor DeGagné.

A private family interment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrews Cemetery. Prayers will be offered March 31, 2011 at 7 p.m.  in the Blake Funeral Chapel.  If friends desire, in lieu of flowers memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Stanley Maronese in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove Annual dedication service Sunday, June 10, 2012.
