Posted

Mrs. Alice Mary Smith (nee Armstrong) passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011, following a lengthy illness.

Alice, who was born in Port Arthur on May 6, 1935, was a lifelong resident of the city.

Alice was a devoted wife and mother who was very proud of all of the accomplishments of her family. Among her favourite memories were summers spent at the camp on MacKenzie Beach.

She loved to visit with her children and grandchildren to share in their lives.  She had many fond memories of travelling to Hawaii with her sister Dorothy. Alice and Basil enjoyed vacationing in Mesa, Arizona during the winters where they spent much treasured time with her brother Jim and sister Dorothy.  Alice also created many beautiful memories with her grandchildren each Christmas with her annual cookie baking afternoons.

Alice also loved her home on Phillips Street, where they raised their family. In recent years, she took great pleasure in creating a beautiful home in their new condominium, decorating and rearranging everything with the view of the lake in mind.

Alice will be fondly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Basil, daughter Lorraine Smith, son Sandy (Pirjo) Smith, David and Hannah, daughter Andrea Smith (Greg Symons), Lindsay and Kyle, and sister Dorothy (Jim) Carrie of Kelowna, British Columbia. She is also survived by numerous relatives.  Alice was predeceased by her parents, Edna and George Armstrong and brother, Jim Armstrong.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 5,  2011 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Rev. Susan Ivany presiding.

Interment in Riverside Cemetery will follow the reception. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Home.

Should friends desire, memorial donations to the T.B.R.H.S.C.-Northern Cancer Fund or the St. Joseph's Foundation would be appreciated.
