Mrs. Kathleen Marcelle Carniato (nee Desjardins), age 78 years, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, May 9, 2011.

Kathleen was born on July 26, 1932 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Edward and Elizabeth Desjardins. She married Italo “Joseph” on Valentine's Day in 1953 and settled in Port Arthur where she was welcomed into the Carniato family. Kay was an active member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church and was a member of their CWL for 55 years.

Kay enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Whitefish Lake. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, curling, cooking and was an avid reader. She also loved puzzles, cards and a good game of Scrabble.

Survived by her husband Italo Joseph of 58 years; five children Linda Dell (David) of Thunder Bay, James of Barrie, Kenneth (Patricia) of North Vancouver, Gary (Louise) of Vancouver Island and Michael (Denise) of Calgary; grandchildren Jonathan Dell of Calgary, Ryan and Britney Carniato of North Vancouver, Samantha (Ryan) Rhodes, Coral Carniato and her daughter Evelyn of Vancouver Island, and Iris Carniato of Fort McMurray. A sister Edie Jacques of Qualicum Beach, B.C., and a brother Wilf (Lena) of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Terry Desjardins of Winnipeg as well as numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Kay was predeceased by her great-grandson Miles Van Dusen and brother Edward Desjardins.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Kathleen Carniato will be held on Friday, May 13, 2011 leaving the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma at 10 a.m. to Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow in the Carniato family plot in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Everest Chapel with Vigil Prayers offered at 7 p.m.

Donations made in memory of Kathleen to St. Joseph's Heritage or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.

Kay will be remembered as a thoughtful and caring person by all who knew and loved her.
