Irene Hamilton

Mrs. Irene Hamilton, age 76 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hospice Unit, on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, with family at her side.

Irene worked in various positions during her life at Direct Charge Co-Op, Current River Hardware and Grenville Meats, but her home and family were most important to her. 

She spent many hours watching her children at the hockey arena, ball diamond and ski hill and was their biggest supporter. Throughout the years she enjoyed family camping trips, fishing, gardening and knitting with many people wearing the sweaters she created. 

More recently, Irene always looked forward to daily rides to Lakeview Lodge and along many country roads in the area with husband Don.

Irene will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Don, her husband of 57 years; son Donny (Rose), son Jimmy and daughter Holly (Dick Ball); grandchildren:  Joey Paxson, Katie (Wayne) Hamilton, Melissa Hamilton, Suzie (Thorin) Lane; great grandchildren:  Darcy, Eric, Kross, Ivy, Eden and Lilly; sisters-in-law Darlene Eastman and Heather (Bob) Taylor. 

Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.  Irene was predeceased by son Kelly; parents Hilda and Albin Johnson; sister Senja Johnson; in-laws Edwin and Beatrice Hamilton and brother-in-law Craig Hamilton. 

Following cremation, Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Ed Long.  Interment to take place in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the Service.  In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Irene’s memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, designated to the Northern Cancer Fund, or to the charity of your choice.
