William 'Bill' Wood

Mr. William “Bill” Wood, age 75 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully on Aug. 17, 2011.

Bill was born in North Grimsby in 1936, moved to Thunder Bay, and at the age of 16 started his long and distinguished career in the sporting goods industry. Beginning employment at Petrie’s Cycle and Sports, Bill then moved to Perciante and Laprade, then on to The Creator's Post, and finally ending his career at Canadian Tire.

In his youth, Bill played semi-pro baseball at the position of first base. In his adult years, Bill had a love for the outdoors. He spent many years at Arrow Lake enjoying the summer months. He also enjoyed dancing, bowling and playing horseshoes.                             

Bill is survived by his son Terry (Rowena), and his daughter Tracy. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.  Bill was predeceased by his parents Bill and Ellen; brother Reginald; and wife Dolores “Dolly”.

As per Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place with no funeral service. A small family gathering will take place in Ottawa where Bill will be interred.  Should  friends so desire, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay, or to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society.
