<p> Mr. Samuel Richard Holloway, age 92 years, formerly of Melvin Avenue, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, September 24, 2011.</p> <p> Born in Holland, Manitoba in 1919.&nbsp; Sam moved to Brantford with his family at a young age.&nbsp; It was there that he met his sweetheart, Lillian Sterne.</p> <p> Sam had apprenticed as a machinist before the War but then joined the Air Force when it began, teaching Gunnery.&nbsp; After WWII ended, Sam moved to Port Arthur and continued to teach Range (Marksmanship) for the Air Cadets in addition to his full time position at the Port Arthur Technical and Commercial High School, as the Machine Shop Teacher and Technical Director.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Sam retired&nbsp; in 1977, however, retirement didn&rsquo;t slow him down.&nbsp; He was a member of the Lakehead Search and Rescue, and the unofficial Silver Islet Maintenance Man, fixing anything anyone asked him to.&nbsp; Sam was also known for his love and appreciation of music as well as the women who played it, (both of his wives being piano players).&nbsp; Sam was first married to Lillian in 1942, and they shared 51 happy years together as friends and companions.&nbsp; Years after she passed away, Sam married again at the age of 76 years, this time to Margaret McCutchen who had been a longtime friend.</p> <p> Sam will be lovingly remembered by his children:&nbsp; Gayle (Richard) Duke, Laura (Kim) Kydd; daughter-in-law Sybil Holloway; sons-in-law:&nbsp; Gary Prosser Sr. and Rudy Jaun; grandchildren:&nbsp; Gary (Tara Greene) and Samantha (Chris) Duke-Richards, Tara Kydd, and Shawn (Melissa Dailey); great grandchildren:&nbsp; Kaylee, Samuel and Ben Prosser and Jordan Richards; as well as his brother Ken Holloway.&nbsp; He was predeceased by his first wife Lillian and his second wife Margaret; children:&nbsp; Anne Jaun, Richard Holloway; one grandson Shannon Duke; and his parents Richard and Catherine Holloway.&nbsp;</p> <p> Cremation has taken place and Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30<sup>th</sup>, 2011in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street.&nbsp; Burial of the ashes will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens.&nbsp; Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the Service.&nbsp; If friends so desire, donations may be made to The Children&rsquo;s Wish Foundation of Canada.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p> <em>Online condolences may be offered at </em><a href="http://www.harbourviewfuneral.ca/" target="_blank"><em>www.harbourviewfuneral.ca</em></a></p> <p align="center"> &nbsp;</p>
