<p> Mrs. Vera Waller (nee Germain), age 93 years, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Interim Long Term Care on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Vera was born in Buchanan, Sask., on Feb.15, 1918 to Jacob and Maria Germain.&nbsp;As a young woman she left the family farm for Fort William in pursuit of work.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> It was here that she met the love of her life Herbert Waller who she married in May of 1942 and together they raised their four children.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> It was with her family, especially her grandchildren that she was happiest and she was very proud of all of their accomplishments. Vera loved being with people and sharing a laugh and was known to enjoy surprises and practical jokes.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> In 1954, she and Herb purchased a camp at Wild Goose where they enjoyed fishing and sharing many great times with family and friends.&nbsp;Vera was a very active person, participating in baseball when she was younger, bowling, curling, cross country skiing, golfing and was well known for her card playing skills.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Her drive and competitive nature served her well in life as she was successful in her business endeavors and social activities and didn&#39;t let life&#39;s obstacles stop her from doing the things she enjoyed. Vera loved to travel.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> She and Herb drove to many destinations including B.C., Quebec City, Mexico and Florida, visiting relatives along the way, and she continued to travel in Canada and the U.S., Hawaii, Mexico and Europe after Herb&#39;s passing.&nbsp; She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Edgar (Sandy) Waller and Brian (Janet) Waller, daughters Sharon (Bob) Nicholl and Jean (John) Mayo,&nbsp; grandchildren Scott (Carolyn) Waller, Fay (Tim) Fox, Karen Waller, Laura (Manjeet) Mann, Rhonda Nicholl and Jennifer Mayo,&nbsp;eight great grandchildren, sisters Lena Paulenko and Dora Ungarian as well as by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.&nbsp; She was predeceased by her husband Herb Waller, her parents and brothers Jimmy, George, Fred and Bill Germain.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 in the Sargent &amp; Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street at 1 p.m. with Rev. Susan Ivany of Westminster United Church presiding.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Visitation for friends will be held one hour prior to service time.&nbsp; As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund, the Ontario Heart &amp; Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Online condolences may be made at:&nbsp; <a href="http://www.sargentandson.com" target="_blank">www.sargentandson.com</a>.<br /> <br /> <br /> &nbsp;</p>
