<p> Mr. Jack Kydd, age 92 years, passed away in St. Joseph&#39;s Care Group on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012.<br /> <br /> Jack was born in Fort William on April 2, 1919 and was adopted and raised in Port Arthur by the late George and Sarah Kydd.<br /> <br /> In 1943, while still in the Navy he married the former Mabel Johnson.<br /> <br /> Jack was a Petty Officer in the royal Canadian Navy, but received his training with the British Navy and saw service in the Murmansk Convoys and the Mediterranean during the reoccupation of North Africa.<br /> <br /> Returning to Port Arthur at the end of the war he was employed by Provincial Paper for 35 years as a hoisting engineer, retiring in 1985.<br /> <br /> His main interests were the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping.<br /> <br /> As a sportsman he was Past President of the Thunder Bay Fish and Game Association and served for a number of years on the McIntyre School Board prior to amalgamation and also served as President of the Thunder Bay Humane Society for a period of time.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association and First Baptist Church where he served on various boards, particularly as trustee on the Finance Board. He was predeceased by his wife Mabel and granddaughter Allison. He is survived by his son Kim (Laura), daughter Nancy Metza, grandchildren Kevin Metza, Tara Kydd, Shawn (Melissa) Kydd and great granddaughter Avery Lynn Kydd.<br /> <br /> Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Sargent &amp; Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Pastor Chris Fiorito presiding.<br /> <br /> The services will be complete in the chapel with private interment taking place in United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to the St. Joseph&#39;s Foundation or the Thunder Bay Naval Heritage Fund would be appreciated.<br /> <br /> Online condolences may be made at <a href="http://www.sargentandson.com" target="_blank">www.sargentandson.com</a>.<br /> <br /> &nbsp;</p>
