<p> Mr. Peter Nabozniak, WWII R.C.A.F. 429 Squadron Veteran, longtime resident of Thunder Bay and the Walford and formerly of Toronto, passed away in St. Joseph&rsquo;s Care Group on Aug. 9, 2012, one day before his 101st birthday.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Peter was born in Caliento, MB, on Aug. 10, 1911 on a farm homestead.&nbsp;Peter&#39;s early years were spent &#39;riding the rails&#39;, cutting pulp, working the mines (Pickle Lake, Coleman, Alta.), prior to enlisting in Calgary with the R.C.A.F.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> He served a tour as a tail gunner on a Halifax Bomber, survived a ditching in the North Sea in SEP &#39;44, and was a member of the &#39;Goldfish Club&#39;.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> He returned from duty and married in Toronto, having two sons: Lawrence and Alan Brend, and two daughters, Mary Lynn Kidd and Elizabeth Smith.&nbsp; Peter was employed by the TTC, prior to moving to Thunder Bay, where he worked for Iron Range Bus Lines before retiring.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> He was an active member of St. George&#39;s Society and the Church of the Holy Cross and a member of Branch No. 6 of the Royal Canadian Legion, with over 53 years of legion service. He was well known for his Remembrance Day participation.&nbsp; He is survived by sons Lawrence and Alan Brend, spouse Alice and grandchildren Michele and Richard all of Toronto, and daughter Elizabeth, Victoria, B.C.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> He was predeceased by his parents: Andrew and Antonina, 3 brothers: Ivan (RCA, WWII), Steve and Mike, 5 sisters: Tillie, Jean, Annie, Mary and Hazel and his youngest daughter Mary Lynn.&nbsp; The Family wishes to give special thanks to the WALFORD staff, to the kind and caring nurses and doctors of 2 B Wing at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph&#39;s Hospital, who all helped this veteran attend his last parade.&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 when family and friends will gather in the Church of the Holy Cross for the Liturgy beginning at 11 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Vladimir Chvets. Visitation for friends will be held on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. with Panakhyda being offered at 7 p.m. in the Sargent &amp; Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N.
