<p> Mrs. Helen (nee Cattani) Hansen born July 13, 1927, passed away Wednesday Feb. 13, 2013 surrounded by the love of her family.&nbsp;</p> <p> Helen was a life long resident of Thunder Bay where she graduated from PACI and then went on to Normal School (teachers college) in North Bay.&nbsp;</p> <p> Helen returned to Thunder Bay to begin her teaching career and taught in the outlying areas of Thunder Bay, North Branch, Finmark, Loon Lake, and Pass Lake.&nbsp; It was in Pass Lake where she met her future husband of 58 years Verner.&nbsp; Helen is survived by her children, Diane Piechota (Joey), Cathy Dyson (Al), Laura Danelisky (Rick) and Verna Brannan (Glenn).&nbsp;</p> <p> Helen will be sadly missed by her 5 grandchildren Cindie and Michael Hietanen, Stephenie and Allison Danelisky, Andrew Piechota and her step grand-daughter Lindsay Dyson.&nbsp;&nbsp; Helen is also survived by her beloved sister Teresa Stortini and sisters-in-law, Margaret Cattani, Toni Cattani, and Rita Cattani.&nbsp; She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;</p> <p> Helen was predeceased by her husband Verner on June 19, 2011, her parents Mary and Joseph Cattani, and her brothers Harold Cattani, Bobby Cattani, and Bernard Cattani.</p> <p> Helen was an active member of the CWL of St. Margaret&#39;s Parish for many years.&nbsp; She generously gave her time to numerous causes.&nbsp;</p> <p> She loved to sew for her girls when they were young.&nbsp; When her grandchildren came, she put her excellent knitting skills to use.&nbsp; She always ensured a new sweater for every holiday, including Valentine&#39;s Day.&nbsp; Helen loved to play Bridge with her numerous friends.&nbsp; Helen and Verner enjoyed traveling in his retirement.</p> <p> <br /> Visitation for friends will be held on Friday, Feb. 16th from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Sargent &amp; Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, where the Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m.</p> <p> <br /> The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 16th at 11 a.m. at St. Margaret&#39;s Roman Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Ciaran Donnelly.&nbsp; Inurnment will take place at a later date.</p> <p> <br /> The family of Helen would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at St. Joseph&#39;s, 5 North and to the team at the 4th floor Hospice, all of whom took excellent care of her as well as her daughters.&nbsp;</p> <p> <br /> Donations may be made to the St. Joseph&#39;s Foundation or the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation-Norther Cancer Fund.&nbsp;</p> <p> Online condolences may be made at <a href="http://www.sargentandson.com" target="_blank">www.sargentandson.com.</a><br /> <br /> <br /> We&nbsp; take comfort in knowing that Helen has joined her beloved Vern for Valentine&#39;s Day.<br /> <br /> &nbsp;</p>
