It is with very sad hearts that the family of Ron Uvanile age 67, announce his passing on Feb. 11, 2014 after a short but hard battle with cancer.

Ron passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with family by his side. He attended Prospect Avenue and Hillcrest High Schools.

After high school Ron tried his hand at several different jobs. In 1969 he started his career at Eaton's and worked his way up to become a very successful sales manager. In 1993 he was promoted to manage the Eaton's store in the West Edmonton Mall, then returned to Thunder Bay and retired from Eaton's in 1997.

After that he had some "fun" jobs at St James Stereo and the city golf courses.

Ron was a kind, compassionate person. He did not judge, listened well and was a friend to many. He had a genuine way of making everyone feel welcomed and comfortable.

Family was very important to Ron. He was very proud of his two daughters and their accomplishments, supporting them any way he could. When his two grandsons were born he was overjoyed. They loved their Grampy as much as he loved them. Throughout his life Ron had many interests, though his passions were golfing and in later years, playing bridge. There were never too many practice rounds or books to read to perfect either.

He enjoyed growing vegetables at home and at his Community Garden and riding his bike to the Dew Drop Inn to deliver the surplus veggies.

Ron is survived by and will be terribly missed by Dee, his best friend and wife of 44 years, his daughters Michelle (Scott Bond) and Katie (Guillaume Giguére), grandsons Gibson Bond and Koen Giguére. Also survived by, his mother Dorie McKercher and brothers Terry and Doug Crawford, sisters and brothers-in-law Vivien Mazurski, Lesley (David Grainger), Colin (Kelly) Hayton, Stephen and Jackie Hayton, and many other loving relatives and friends.

Ron was predeceased by his sister Diane Guyatt, and his father Frank Uvanile.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held at the Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 North Court Street on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Randy Boyd presiding.

A reception to follow in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, donations to the Shelter House or charity of choice would be appreciated.

Online condolences may be made at: www.sargentandson.com.
